Today finally after weeks of trying I managed to find some time to get out for a run.
All day at work its all I thought about, I was so so looking forward to getting out in the fresh air and totally relaxing into a run π
It started well, feeling like it was only yesterday that I had last ran
Then trouble struck just over the one mile mark, my calf started to hurt, I slowed down a little but by one and a half miles I had to stop π
I hobbled home and I am now sulking…….
Afraid that my body is telling me, at almost 50, I am too old to be running π

Thanks for all the encouraging comments….my calf is much better but I will stay away from the running till after my holiday then start back carefully on the tread mill and I think i will start going to yoga again too π
I took up weight training at 51 so no, you’re not too old at all. Just a bit of stiffness – it will work out.
Nonsense! I know lots of older runners. Don’t give up something you enjoy.
Just realized that is been 3 whole weeks since I last walked or ran…. the longest time with no walking for years ……… think i will leave the running now till after my holiday as i need to have a well leg then for all the walking… thank fully i still have a gym membership …. 50 is just a number… but its an annoying number π
64 is a hell of a lot more annoying number π
Rubbish! I know plenty of people considerably older who still run, and race. It’s difficult after a break in running to remember just how slowly you have to start back. A bit of walk/run, plenty of stretching, build back up steadily. I’m looking forward to post in a couple of weeks about a great 3 mile run that felt like you could have gone on further.
Your body is telly you whoa we haven’t run for a while, we need to get back into it gently.
50 is only a number, forget it π
Sally, you have been running a good while now, I don’t think for one minute it has anything to do with you being nearly 50. You might just have pulled a muscle. Remember a little while ago you had the other problem with your hip .. (I think).. not sure what it was, but you rested and it was fine.
I remember you telling me anyone can run , and I said I can’t .. well I definitely can’t now .. I cannot even walk properly .. LOL xx
