Alpine Challenge….

If you have not read about Judy Armstrong and her Alpine Challenge then please do so I am sure you will find it fascinating

I have added her link to my blogroll under walking Websites so we can follow her progress.

I believe after months of training she is intending to set out on this Trek at the end of march…  I wish her luck and look forward to reading the progress reports and seeing the photos too.

An Amazing Day…..

Its been Science week in Cambridge 12th to 25th March.

So on Saturday we spent the day going round the different exhibitions and talks.

First we went off to the Department of Experimental Psychology to see how our minds and brains work, there were some good hands on tests which I found very interesting.

The Arts room had an exhibition about how your body clock works and why you can feel so awful if its disrupted by shift work ,jet lag or sleep disorders. Your more likely to wake with a migraine after a night of dreaming….

The one I found most amazing was the Archaeology found at the Grand Arcade. The Archaeological work covered more than 1 Hectare of the  city centre, lasted for 12 months and involved up to 30 archaeologists on site.

It was amazing to see the display of things they had found…including pencils, shoes, pipes, bottles, pottery and skeletons of 4 cows…one which was on display.

We also went to 3 talks… Amazing Aeroplanes Big and Small.

Women, science and  history,  and  What can Ice tell us about climate change.

A real amazing  and interesting day…..

Something for Nothing…

Not often today that you get some thing for nothing.

I thought I would see if I could get some free tickets for the Out door show  at the NEC in Birmingham.

I left posts on both the walking Forums I use just to see what I could come up with.

Was told on one that it was like asking for free Tickets for the FA cup final. So I thought that was the end of that.

Then today I had an e-mail giving me a tip to check here.

So I made a phone call and ticket will be on its way tomorrow.

Will have to make sure I go and say hello to the RA  and Country Walking  people….

Week-end of Walking…….

Today I am packing my Bag and Cleaning my Boots, ready for meeting up with Ellee for a week-end of walking in Sheringham.

We will be joining the Cambridge Rambling Club at the Youth hostel in Sheringham for what I hope will be a great week-end.

I have never walked with this group before so it will be good to meet some new people and I have never stayed at a youth hostel before so that will be interesting .

Weather forecast is good, cold but sunny, perfect for walking.

Hope you all have a good week-end,see you back here on Monday.

Chinese State Circus.

Today I took my boys to see the Chinese state circus at the corn exchange ,in Cambridge.

It was good to get out for the day,I didn’t have to drive so that was a nice treat too. My friend took us and after my last attempt at driving to Cambridge I was surprised to see that I could remember my way this  time.

The show lasted about an hour and forty minutes, and was full of entertainment ,daring and skill .

which included the Shaolin Wu-Shu Warriors. hoop diving, jar juggling and the Chinese lion dance.

The human chandelier was very impressive.

I wonder what kind of training these guys have to do to keep so supple and flexible.

Chain saw massacre

In the square in Les Gets on a Wednesday evening , you get free mulled wine ,some thing I got a taste for while I was there, a live band playing and yesterday there was also a demonstration on wood sculpting, using a chain saw.

It all looked very interesting but just one slip could of ruined the whole thing.

Around the square they had set fire  to some tree trunks which not only  looked great but was a good way to keep warm too.

Next to all this was an out door ice rink , some thing I decided to keep away from, did not need any more bruises that’s for sure.

All in all its been a great holiday for me,with such fab company, certainly a holiday too remember .

Exciting start to the Year

After a great Christmas and a brill new year I didn’t think it could get any better but I start the new year off by going away to Les Gets for a few days, we fly out on Sunday and I’m starting to get very excited, having never done much traveling this will be a new experience for me .I hope to have a go at some snow shoeing and I know Geoff is desperate to get on his snowboard. My boys are looking forward to having the house to themselves too, the girlfriend will keep them in order… Have also downloaded Skype and hope to get all my friends using it too

Christmas Day

After an exciting start to the day we went to Hunstanton to see the Round Table Charity Swim,

so did a thousand other people too. About 50 very Brave people turned out for the swim , most in fancy dress, which made an interesting sight. Next year my boys are going to do it too.
