Anglesey Abbey

As Geoff’s chest is much better we made it out on our Sunday walk with the Cambridge Rambling Club.

This week it was from Anglesey Abbey

Just a small group of us, as many are away on holiday walking in the mountains.

My new Scarpa boots felt comfortable for the 14 miles we walked.

I may just have them broken in ready for our China trip in 7 weeks time 🙂

Birthday celebrations

This week has been very busy for me

It was Geoff’s birthday on Wednesday so I have been driving up and down the A10 all week.

We celebrated Geoff’s birthday by going out to Lunch at The Tivoli, the new weatherspoons pub.

It was excellent value for money.

Then in the evening we went to Downing college Gardens with family and friends, to see the Shakespeare play, Love’s Labour’s Lost which was very enjoyable

The weather was very kind to us too and the rain kept away 🙂

This year I made Ginger and lemon Cupcakes as the birthday cake and very delicious they were too !

Now I need to spend some time catching up with all my favourite blogs so I will be visiting you all soon 🙂

Poppies

This year there seems to be an abundance of poppies

The ones around me have been around for months

this must be due to the lack of rain, which usually spoils the petals

I took my camera out and took a few photos to share with you 🙂

A bewitching Tale

I enjoy walking with my friend T

She always knows some local history or has a strange story to tell 🙂

Wednesday was no exception.

As we walked through Eastmoor we came across some houses that had hundreds and hundreds of small stones packed into the mortise between each brick.

Now unfortunately I cannot tell you why 🙂

As it might spoil it for when T leads the Newmarket Ramblers on this walk later in the year

But it might be fun for you to try and guess the reason why all these small stones are there 🙂

Walking round Oxborough

Today I went off to Oxborough to meet my friend T

She had to recce a walk she is doing later in the year for the Newmarket Ramblers

Even though Oxborough is only a 30 min drive from here I had not been over that side of Norfolk since leaving Marham 5 years ago.

I had totally forgotten how lovely it is, small single track country lanes, quaint villages and lots of churches.

T was glad I had my GPS , the walk is in the program as 10 miles when in fact it was just over 12 🙂

I was well impressed with her leading skills as we never got lost once not even with all the chatting.

Its amazing just how quick 12 miles go when your chatting too.

We finished the day in the local pub, Bedingfeld Arms with tea and carrot cake where we chatted away for another Half an hour or so before dragging ourselves home.

I was so taken by today’s walk that I came home and ordered the book it was partly taken from, as I want to take Geoff over that way and see if I can lead him on a walk for a change.

Growing

Well my knitting is slowly growing.

The toe is now finished and the foot is next.

Then it’s the heel

Only one person guessed that it’s socks that I am knitting

Well done to Devonshire dumpling 🙂

An away day

Yesterday the Cambridge Rambling club had there summer coach trip.

So at 8.30am I found myself on a coach heading to Sheringham

Yes I know that is nearer to my own house in Norfolk.

Its more fun though to go on a coach with your friends 🙂

After 14 enjoyable hot and dusty miles was walked.

We rewarded ourselves with some of Dave’s fish and chips before getting the coach home.

Arriving back in Cambridge around 8pm , that’s what you call a day out 🙂
