Sally In Norfolk

Sally Relaxing !

After the most fantastic holiday in and around Budapest with Geoff, I am now back in Norfolk, while Geoff carries on with his bike ride along the Danube bike trail.

Usually our holidays are long distance walks, which some would say is not a holiday at all, but this holiday was totally different.

We did some walking, some sightseeing, some biking, and lots of relaxing with Spa pools, hot tubs, steam rooms, thermal lakes and turkish baths.

I even went for 3 runs by Lake Balaton 🙂

In one word it was… Heaven !!

Now its back to my beloved bike, Ladybirds,  Parkrun  and Massage clients

Hungarian countryside

Monday 30th September,

Today we caught a bus from Budapest out to Sasto in the Hungarian countryside.

1-IMG_5525We had booked ourselves into the Panorama Panzio for 4 nights thinking it would make a great base while we explored the Matra Mountain Range.

Soon after arriving at the Panzio it became apparent that all was not as advertised on booking.com

Thinking or hoping it would be ok we took ourselves off for a lovely walk along some well marked tracks.

On our return the reception was shut and it was obvious there was going to be no food.

So we wandered down the track to the camping site that is being renovated only to find the restaurant closed. Luckily the snack bar was still open and they reluctantly served us chips and lukewarm goulash soup before pulling the shutters down on us 🙁

The wifi advertised as available in all rooms was in reality only available at the far end of the corridor.

Which is where we sat and planned our escape …

River Danube boat trip

20131002-111929.jpg

Sunday 29th of September we took a trip on the hydrofoil up the River Danube taking in the famous Danube bend ….. this was their last trip of the season !

It was a beautiful sunny relaxing day.

Funnily enough the first thing we bumped into was a running race so good to see running is as popular here as at home

After a lovely coffee while basking in the sun we took a walk up castle hill to look round the Basilica which is the largest church in Hungary.

Then we walked across the Maria Valeria bridge, the middle of this bridge marks the border between Hungary and Slovakia , its  been destroyed twice, the last time in 1944 and only renovated in 2001

Then after a nice long lunch it was time for the return boat trip.

I never realised doing nothing could be so tiring 🙂

Getting my boots out….

This may be hard to believe but I have not done a walk since 28th July, even I find that hard to believe 🙁

walking boots Its due to 2 reasons, with Geoff away ,I have been staying In Kings Lynn at weekends, any decent walks from here are a good drive away and with the cost of fuel, a walk becomes a luxury.

The other reason of course is my beautiful bike, a fantastic gift from Geoff, to help me pass the weekends doing something I love …Exercise,  without having to spend money 🙂

My other favourite pass time is Running, which strangely seems to be improving since I started biking…

So in the Past 4 weeks I have cycled 287 miles, loving the Group riding with the SWNC

I have also ran aprox 40 miles, enjoying the Saturday morning parkruns and the Ladybird club runs.

BUT tomorrow I am going for a walk it may only be 12 miles, which is short for me but its a walk and one I am looking forward too very much….

Betrayal

Just recently I took Geoff to Westacre Theatre to see Betrayal by Harold Pinter, it was an early birthday present.

We went early as the play showing nearer his birthday was a religious musical, 2 things he cannot abide.

Luckily it was a beautiful evening so we enjoyed a picnic in the theatre grounds before the show.

Betrayal was a love story told in reverse described as “like watching a flower blossom backward, its petals inexorably closing” and the cast of 4 played to a full theatre.

The story was told in 9 scene’s and did feel a little slow at times, but it contained some good humour and it all fell into place at the end !

What seemed strange was so many people asked me if Geoff enjoyed it when surly they should have been asking him 🙂

Panic buy

Tomorrow we fly off to Pisa to spend some time walking along the GEA.

Yesterday I had a panic and decided I did not want to walk in my shoes.

So today it was a trip to Cotswold to buy a pair of Scarpa gtx boots,
once again getting 15% discount with my Cambridge rambling club membership

Now I think I am ready to go and enjoy 🙂

Two years ago today I moved into my house and I love it more than ever 🙂

DSCF7323-001In the past year, just when I thought it was never going to happen, I got my job transfer, which has made a huge difference to my life.

I also joined the ladybird running club which has been great for me in many ways, finally I feel like I am getting to know some people,so life don’t feel quite so lonely.

My Garden is blossoming, and I enjoy pottering around in it too, something I thought I would never say.

It can be a huge struggle at times to pay the bills but if I had not moved it certainly would have been a lot harder now than it is !!

Wednesday night treat

feet treat No its not a bottle of wine or a gin and tonic !!

With all this running and walking its a treat for my feet, a soak in the body shop peppermint reviving foot soak and a scrub with peppermint pumice foot scrub.

The lady at the shop gave me a sample of the peppermint foot rescue cream too, its very very nice and is now on my list of things to buy, a never ending list I might add 🙁

Its a great treat after a wednesday evening run with the ladybirds !
