Hump Day

We all have a day in the week that we dislike, for most people its the Monday blues but for me its  Wednesday or Hump day, that I struggle with.

Screenshot 15:05:2013 23:05Then early this year I joined the Ladybird running club which meets on a Wednesday evening and it changed everything.

I love Wednesdays now and spend all day knowing that I shall be going out for a run with a great bunch of Girls 🙂

Today the cold, windy, wet, winter like weather had made me feel especially miserable but once I got out running all was forgotten and I came home feeling happy and full of the joys of spring 🙂

The runs are in many places that I have never been so I am collecting a few new running routes too, tonight we were at West Lynn and almost 6 miles of road running was achieved.

Now its all down hill to the weekend 🙂

ps Thursdays is one of my favourite days this could be as I am still high from running on wednesday nights 🙂

Park Run

I have known about the Park Runs for some time now, having a special interest in the Kings Lynn park run and the Cambridge park run.

Parkrun-logoThe problem is they involve doing 2 things I dont really enjoy, early morning running and a 3 lap route, but I knew when the time was right I would eventually do one.

So I set my alarm for 7.30am on Saturday and have to confess I did wonder what I was letting myself in for but I need not have worried as it was fabulous, fun and friendly, amazingly I knew quite a few of the runners too 🙂

All the time I was running I kept thinking how much harder it was running at 9am, then when I finished and got my time I realised it might have been harder as it was my best 5k time at 29.11, a time that I think will be hard for me to better!

I was very impressed with the organisation of the Kings Lynn parkrun and how quickly the results went up on the web site, its all run by volunteers and is totally free too.

Its going to be a while before I have the chance to do another parkrun but I will be back !!

GEAR 10k Run

What a difference a year makes, last year it  was cold and dull for the GEAR 10k Run, I ran with an injury and it was hard, this year it was sunny and hot, I had no injury and I loved it 🙂

Almost finished

1700 runners took part and the atmosphere was brilliant, crowds of people lined the streets cheering you on at every corner.

Geoff was also there to support me, which really made my day and he took some great photos.

There was a time last year when I thought my Achilles would never get better and I would never run again but eventually around Christmas time I started back with some gentle runs.

Then I joined The Lynnsport Ladybirds running club,at first I found it hard especially as I was used to running on my own,but I soon settled in and for the first time ever I started to meet people from around Kings Lynn.

I was soon back up to running 6 miles but was very paranoid about my Achilles, it does ache at times but thankfully I have learnt to rest it between runs and the aching soon goes away.

This run was amazing for me, I am so happy to be back running, I want to run longer distance but must confess that I am scared I may upset my Achilles again and I dont want any more injuries!

So for now I will try the Park Run, the Race for Life in July, and the Sandringham Xk in September

and if anyone has any tips on how to strengthen my Achilles then please let me know 🙂

The Rose Petal Beach

I have just finished reading The Rose Petal Beach by Dorothy Koomson.

Screenshot 21:02:2013 21:58It was a great read, I have also read The Ice Cream Girls by the same author and what i liked most about these books has been the endings… neither ended like you expected them too !!

Now the plan is not to start another book just yet but to spend some time knitting but we shall see how that plan goes…. as you cannot knit in bed !!

My running is coming along great at the moment, averaging about 10 miles a week, longest run being 4 miles so I hope I can keep improving on that till I am back up to the 10km mark 🙂

With all the running I have dropped another kg in weight which makes me feel very healthy, I did have a little panic when my Fitbit started falling apart but thanks to the great customer service they provide I had a replacement within 2 days.

Since having my fitbit its the first time in my life that I have managed to maintain any weight loss and I would highly recommend one to anyone wanting a healthier life style 🙂

Changing my attitude !!

This evening I finally did something that I have been wanting to do since I moved house 18 months ago… I went running with the Lynnsport Ladybird running club

What had been stopping me from going was my attitude, as I believe in giving everything 100% commitment so if i cannot do something every week then I dont go 🙁

Running clubObviously with the hours I work and my commitment to my massage clients it means I cannot commit to social events on a regular basis so then I miss out !!

Just before Christmas one of my lovely elderly massage clients gave me a stern talking too and basically told me that I had to change my attitude she told me people would not think badly of me if I didn’t turn up every week especially when they knew how hard I worked.

So I have been mulling this over in my mind for quite a few weeks now.

Then on Twitter I discovered another running group that meets up In Kings Lynn on a Tuesday evening and Sunday morning, well I thought if i joined both groups I would have double the chance of getting out !

So with a change of attitude I found myself at Lynnsport tonight meeting up with the ladybirds, they did remember me from the past when I did the beginners running course, who they wouldn’t let me run with tonight, so I picked the 3 mile group and went off with them.

Apart from having a very nasty fall 🙁 it was great to do something sociable, I paid my yearly membership and of course they understood completely when I told them that i might not make it every week 🙂

and when i see my massage client tomorrow she is going to be well pleased !!!

GEAR 10km Run 2012

5 weeks ago, after annoying an old achilles problem while out running, I really thought I would not be able to do the Gear 10km  run.

Waiting to start

I stopped running but carried on with my walking hoping that maybe this would keep me fit enough to run the 10km with no training.

My usual running distance is 4 miles, and last week I did a 4 mile run to see how I felt, the day after my achilles ached quite a bit and I was still unsure on what to do.

This morning I was up early rubbing Nurofen gel onto my achilles thinking I would just run it gentle and set a time for the next 10km.

It was perfect running conditions dry and cold 🙂

I expected a time of 66 mins (with training ) so imagine my delight when my actual time was 63 mins, and this was with no running for 4 weeks 🙂

Gear Medal

My achilles did ache but never got any worse !

I believe 2000 runners took part, its a great flat course and the crowd really cheered you on, just a shame my photographer is away walking the south west coast path , so I have no photos of me coming across the finish line 🙁

The official results are out and I came 1112 out 2000 which I think is very respectable 🙂

Now its on to the next Challenge which is a 26 mile walk in 2 weeks time 🙂

and I will be looking for another 10km to do later in the year !

Testing out my Achilles

Having had  a week off running to rest my aching achilles, I am eager or should that be desperate to get out for a run, but I am also a little apprehensive just incase it aggravates it again 🙁

It certainly feels much better so fingers crossed , especially as my 10km GEAR run is getting closer.

I have bought myself a pair of Sorbothane shock stopper heel pads too, which hopefully will give my achilles some protection.

Just waiting for a break in the rain now 🙂

Race for Life 2010

A huge huge Thank you to all the lovely kind generous people that sponsored me.

Some who I know and a few who I don’t 🙂 but because of you all

I managed to Raise just over £200 🙂

It was an amazing event with over 8000 women and girls of all ages taking part.

Some ran, some jogged and some walked but we all did it together to raise money for cancer research.

It was a new route this year that started from Parkers piece and took us through the town centre along Kings College through the backs then up the river to Jesus Green.

A fantastic route and one which I hope they keep 🙂

I had set myself a challenge which I thought I was not going to be able to achieve but its amazing what you can do when you try 🙂

I pushed myself hard, right out my comfort zone and ran it in 28.08 🙂

An amazing day and it was so good to have Geoff there, who had delayed his flight to France so he could stay and take some photos.
