The Lycian way to Goynuk

The walking since I last posted has been brilliant.

Far more mountainous than the first half of the walk

We have had some lovely swimming in the clearest water I have ever seen

Today we had a very long walk putting almost 2 days of walking into 1 day , making it 28 km with a total climb of 1512m

Very different to our normal Cambridge Rambling Club Walks

The reason for this long walk is so tomorrow on our final walking day we can hopefully reach the end at Hisarcandir , which involves a 1650m climb 🙂

Such a shame that our walking companions over the last few days have decided not to
Join us tomorrow

But we shall meet up with them again , hopefully tomorrow evening…… If I survive that climb

The Lycian way to Ucagiz

So far we have had an amazing 13 days walking along the Lycian way in Turkey and have walked around 135 miles.

The walking is very varied and tough but with the most amazing views

We have been up in the turkish hills where local people rescued us from the Turkish storms then provided us with a bed and food.

Pleased to say we are now back in the sun with a perfect walking temperature of around 25 c

We have been sleeping for around 9 hours every night and I have no aches pains or blisters

Rumour has it that the next 13 days will be even harder !

Enjoying Ucagiz after a tough 10m walk

Xanthos to Akbel

We had a lift back up to Xanthos this morning and at 9.30 we continued our walk along the Lycian way to Akbel

Today was a very tough day narrow rocky over grown paths made it hard going and the prickly shrubs irritated my delicate skin 🙁

Once again though we were rewarded with spectacular views especially along the aqueduct.

The route was hard to follow in places today so we didn’t reach Akbel till 4.30pm.

7 hours to walk 13 miles that gives you an idea how tough it was.

Tomorrow it’s a quick look at Patara beach, which is said to be the best in turkey and the only sandy beach too.

Then it’s off on a trek to Kalkan, a beautiful place , so we are told 🙂

Cheers

Thank you for all my birthday wishes.

It’s been fabulous so far 🙂

50 miles Walked in 5 days in exhausting heat of 30 c and over terrain very very different to what we are used to.

Today we Walked from Gavuragthi to Xanthos. Unfortunately there was no where to stay so we had to catch the bus to Patara.

Although we found time to look round the Roman ruins first.

We shall catch the bus back up to Xanthos to continue the walk tomorrow,  although we may have a day off and enjoy the beach first 🙂

Sad to say the Turkish flies seem to love me as I have many nasty bites thankfully we have cream

Kabak

Tonight we are at the beautiful secluded Turan Hill Lounge  (Warning Jenny it’s in flash!) in Kabak.

We walked the 9km Coastal path from the George House. It was a harder walk than expected in heat over 30c but we were rewarded with magnificent views.

Turkish coastOn the way we saw many turtles and had a fabulous swim in the sea where the water is wonderfully warm if a bit salty for my liking 🙂

Towards the end of the walk we joined back up with the Lycian way and continued along the way till we found the Turan Hill Lounge.

Where, We enjoyed the coolness of their spring water pool, drank wine and relaxed for the rest of the afternoon.

I especially love that our delux cabin is called ” Libra ” as it’s my birthday tomorrow not just any old birthday but my 50th

Plunge PoolHow lovely it’s going to be to wake up with Geoff in this beautiful place to another day of walking

What more could a girl ask for 🙂

The start

Geoff & Sally start of Lycian WayToday we walked the first day of the Lycian Way from Ovacik to Faralya the book said 7 hours , we did it in under 5.

It was a great walk brilliant scenery with sea and mountains always in sight.

As always I feel like I have lost a stone in sweat but it’s a wonderful feeling.

We are staying at the George House pension which is a little piece of paradise with the most fantastic vegetarian food.

From the George House you can climb down to the Butterfly Valley and the beach it’s a dangerous walk / climb down and many ropes are needed to assist you.Sally going down to Butterfly Valley

It was very scary and many times we thought about turning back but we so wanted that swim in the sea !

The swim was beautiful but we were concerned about our climb back up to the George House.

We almost took a boat trip to the next village but decided going up was usually easier and quicker than going down so off we went 🙂

Lucky for us it was easier and quicker so we just made it back as the sky’s opened to a magnificent thunder storm.

A fantastic first day and we are looking forward to the next 24 days of walking the Lycian Way 🙂

A hot walk

As Sunday promised to be the hottest day this year so far , it was a great day to try out my new kit.

We did a 15 mile  circular walk from Standon with the Cambridge Rambling club.

As always it was a lovely walk and we did a small detour into Braughing , so we could sample the delights at the village hall.

My new trail shoes were comfortable and kept my feet much cooler 🙂

My new bag was excellent and the airflow system worked brilliant keeping my back dry, usually on such a hot day the back of my T-shirt would be dripping with sweat !

I also took a Clarityn tablet just in case but today there was no sign of any heat or allergy rash 🙂

Goring to Windsor along the Thames path

As Geoff is still making his way along The Thames path it was decided that I should go and join him for the weekend 🙂

So on Friday my friend Tom Tom and I made our way to Goring on Thames.

The plan was Goring to Henley on Saturday then Henley to Windsor on Sunday.

Fantastic weather conditions on the Saturday but a bit drizzly on the Sunday.

Beautiful scenery, bridges, locks, Boats and swans all the way.

A total distance of 43 miles was walked in 2 days 🙂

Here is Geoff at the half way point, shame I wont be there to take his photo when he reaches the Thames barrier tomorrow 🙁

Other photos from day one can be seen here and day two here
