Yorkshire 3 peaks walk

This was a totally unplanned weekend away.

It came about after meeting this mad lady called “Jayne” who walks 100 mile challenge walks with the LDWA.

3 bedsShe asked us if we would like to join her and a few friends to walk the Yorkshire 3 peaks, of course we could not turn down such an invitation.

They were going to stay in a bunk house which luckily had no room for us 🙂 so we booked a nice B&B in Horton in Ribblesdale.

Then due to illness her friends had to call off the trip which was very disappointing for Jayne.

We invited her to join us at the B&B,sadly they were fully booked but then they agreed to put an extra bed in our room.

So on friday evening we found ourselves in Horton in Ribblesdale, with views of a very snowy looking Pen-Y-ghent, sharing a room with a strange Lady and wondering what we had let ourselves in for 🙂

Proud !

Proud to show off my 3 peaks badge

To be able to get the badge you have to walk the 3 peaks in 12 hours

We managed all 3 peaks in 10 hours 45 mins and in wintery conditions too

A totally amazing day 🙂

You’re Banned !!

Just recently I have been having a number of people calling round trying to sell me things or sign up to monthly charity payments.

Just like millions of other of people I cannot afford to do either 🙁

Last week a charity collector was very rude to me and it left me feeling very upset and mean 🙁

I do give to charity in many ways, take all my unwanted things to charity shops, buy pin badges etc but I do this when I can AND do not want people at my door trying to pressure me into a monthly payment I cannot afford !

So now thanks to MoneySavingExpert.com I have this…..

Now lets just hope these people are intelligent enough to READ !!

Where did Spring go !!

We have just returned from a long weekend away walking in the Hope Valley with The Cambridge Rambling Club

Castleton weekend

We decided late in the day to join them so could not get into the Youth Hostel, which was a shame.

We then booked somewhere in haste, with out reading the reviews…. and believe me the reviews are spot on !!  🙁 🙁

Thankfully the bad accommodation did not stop us from enjoying the weekend.

Great food and wine were to be found at the Cheshire Cheese Inn , the company was great and the walking as lovely as always 🙂

Even the snowy conditions on Sunday didn’t stop us from walking…..

and somewhere along the way we seem to have agreed to do the Yorkshire 3 peaks this Saturday so lets hope the weather improves by then !

40 miles in a weekend !

Spring is definitely on its way, the weekend has proved this by being milder and providing us with some much needed sunshine.

After having a lingering migraine all week I have felt 100% human again over the weekend so we made the most of the milder weather and went walking both days.

Ashwell

Saturday we did 25 miles, a practise ready for my 27 mile Daffodil Dawdle walk in a few weeks time, we covered the distance easily no aching legs just hot feet and sore toes, new boots are needed but new socks will have to do for now !

My toes were still a little uncomfortable this morning but not bad enough to stop us from enjoying a nice walk 15 mile walk, from Ashwell with the Cambridge Rambling Club.

Amazingly the ground was very very dry and before long I am sure we shall be in drought conditions 🙁

On Friday we are going to Castleton for 2 days walking in the Hills, which I am so looking forward too 🙂

The Rose Petal Beach

I have just finished reading The Rose Petal Beach by Dorothy Koomson.

Screenshot 21:02:2013 21:58It was a great read, I have also read The Ice Cream Girls by the same author and what i liked most about these books has been the endings… neither ended like you expected them too !!

Now the plan is not to start another book just yet but to spend some time knitting but we shall see how that plan goes…. as you cannot knit in bed !!

My running is coming along great at the moment, averaging about 10 miles a week, longest run being 4 miles so I hope I can keep improving on that till I am back up to the 10km mark 🙂

With all the running I have dropped another kg in weight which makes me feel very healthy, I did have a little panic when my Fitbit started falling apart but thanks to the great customer service they provide I had a replacement within 2 days.

Since having my fitbit its the first time in my life that I have managed to maintain any weight loss and I would highly recommend one to anyone wanting a healthier life style 🙂

A Marathon

NO I am not going to be running a marathon but hopefully I shall be walking 26 miles.

A girlfriend suggested we did another long distance walk together as we enjoyed the Oxfam walk Daffodil Dawdle in 2012.

After having a look around I thought we should do The Daffodil Dawdle organised by the LDWA, its starts at Kirtling Village Hall, near Newmarket and the description of the walk is… Through rolling countryside with studs, woodland, arable & pasture on Suffolk/Cambs border.

I have actually done this walk before many many years ago before I met Geoff  but I did the shorter route then 🙂

The only thing that concerns me is that the route is not marked, your given a description of the route on the day to follow and we all know how good I am at following a map !!

I am hoping that there will be a GPX file of the route which will give me a better chance of not getting lost

The walk is on March 24th and I hope to have a few 20 mile walks before then 🙂

Labour of Love ..

February means marmalade making time and luckily for me Geoff loves marmalade 🙂

I struggled to get the Seville oranges this year, but eventually I found some at the Knights hill farm shop and bought the last 10lb they had in the shop.

While Geoff squeezed the 6lb of oranges and took the pips out I sliced the peel, which was then simmered for a couple of hours with the orange juice ,12 pints of water and the pips tied in a muslin bag.

The start

Once the peel was soft and the liquid reduced by about half, 12lb of preserving sugar was added then boiled for about half an hour, stirring all the time, till setting point was reached.

the middle

The whole process took 5 hours and we now have 26 jars of marmalade, the cost was approximately £17 so around 66p a jar, so well worth making…..

the end

If more Oranges can be found I hope to repeat the whole process again next weekend then Geoff will be set for the year 🙂
