My First Club Ride….

Yesterday I plucked up the courage to go out on a club ride with the main SWNC, it was a 44 mile ride to Thornham.

Luckily for me the group split into 2 with a fast and slower speed.

I coped with the hills better this time and managed to just about stay with the group on the way there…

Coffee break was at Thornham Deli a place I have never been to before but can now highly recommend, the cakes were amazing….

On the way back I struggled to stay with the group, who I think had rocket fuel in their coffee, there was also a head wind making it tough going but luckily someone stayed and looked after me making sure I got back ok.

As you can see my avg speed was 14.1 a good improvement on the the 11.9 which it was On the Hunstanton beginners ride but a fair way to go to match the others at 15.7 ……

As I rode too and from the start of the ride at Castle Rising my total miles for the day was around 52, after laying on the kitchen floor and dying for a few moments I soon recovered πŸ™‚

A tough but fun enjoyable ride, I cannot wait to go again and amazingly I was home by 2pm

Cambridge to London

No I did not Run or Walk from Cambridge to London but I biked on my lovely new Specialized Dolce racing bike πŸ™‚

It was a fantastic gift from Geoff to help me pass the time while he is away on his mega trip.

On our way to London

He even delayed his departure so that I could ride to London with him.

It was a great 63 mile ride although I did not really enjoy the section along Regents Canal, too many people, too much stopping and starting and at times I really thought I may fall into the canal πŸ™

We choose to stay at a hotel that had its own under road car park, thinking our bikes would be safe there but was told to lock our bikes to a lamp post πŸ™ needless to stay we managed to smuggle mine up to our room with us πŸ™‚

Sunday morning came round far too quickly and I had a very heavy heart as I waved Geoff off on his travels.

Now I just have to get my speed and distance up so I can join the local road biking club, some how I don’t think this will take me too long !

Mega Bike ride

<

>

Yesterday I was lucky enough to be able to bike to London with Geoff, it was the first stage of his mega bike ride to his Apartment in Les Gets.
We had a fantastic day and covered 73 miles, with only a few minor hiccups on the way
I thoroughly enjoyed the Route Geoff had mapped out for us.
We followed country lanes to Ware then biked along the River Lea and canal tow-paths into London.
After spending a very enjoyable evening with friends who live in Queens Park, we woke early and made our way to Kings Cross at 6am to miss all the London traffic.
After having some breakfast and coffee Geoff set off on his way to Dover and I caught the Train back to Cambridge.
Now I know I must be mad BUT I would so love to be biking the other 600 miles to Les Gets.
We have a christening to go too on August 21st in Finland so Geoff has
20 days to complete his mission, which I am sure he will do easily.
I did think about going out to Les Gets for the weekend once Geoff gets there as I am sure he will need a massage.
The flights only go from Luton in summer and are too expensive just for a weekend especially once you add on the transfer to Les Gets.
Maybe we can out for a week in September when I have a weeks holiday, to do some walking and biking.
So back to my running while I wait for Geoff to return πŸ™‚

Feeling the burn…

I have not done a long bike ride since I met Geoff, and no biking at all in the last year while Andrew has been using my bike to get to and from work.
Then a few weeks ago Geoff announced that  he was thinking about cycling to his apartment in Les Gets.
The distance is just a mere 600 miles and he’s hoping to do it in around 10 days.
We then discovered that today was the annual London to Cambridge bike ride, a good training ride we thought.
Unfortunately we could not get a place on the bus to the start at Picketts lock.
This did not put us off though, so this morning we were up at 5am and cycling towards London by 6am.
Around the half way mark we started to bump into the fast riders coming from London, so we then turned around and made our way back to Cambridge. Thus getting to experience life in the fast lane πŸ™‚
We cycled well over 50 miles, I did feel the burn up a few of the hills but never once gave in and walked.
The only part of me that aches is my bum πŸ™ while Geoff has an aching back.
So now you must excuse me whilst I go and give Geoff a back massage.
